You probably know to steer clear of acne-causing dairy products, but did you know that many dairy-free milk alternatives in the grocery store are usually made with carrageenan and algin, seaweed derivatives that can make your skin go bonkers too? It's best to make your own nut milk with zero fillers or binders. Here’s the almond milk recipe we give to our acne clients:

      Instructions
      1. To soak the almonds, place 1 cup almonds and 1 teaspoon sea salt in a glass bowl and cover with filtered water. Soak for at least 12 hours. Once soaked, drain and discard the soaking liquid (do not use this to make the milk). Rinse the nuts several times to remove any of the anti-nutrients and enzyme inhibitors.
      2. Put the rinsed almonds and 3 cups water in a blender and set to high for about 60 seconds until completely pulverized. If you like rustic whole milk, you can drink it without straining. For a more commercial-style milk, strain the milk using a fine mesh strainer.
      3. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
